If you do not get a reply to an email within a reasonable time please either send another email, or phone us on (+47) 22 82 85 00 | Welcome to the 6th International Conference of Information Commissioners! | | I'm very pleased that the Norwegian Ombudsman will be hosting the 6th International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC) in Oslo, Norway from 27th to 30th September 2009. The conference is important to further strengthen co-operation on enforcing access to information legislation, and provides an opportunity for information commissioners or their equivalent around the world to meet and share their experiences, as well as discussing new challenges surrounding these issues. | | This year the conference will focus on the following three key themes: | | 1. | Challenges and Opportunities in the Face of New Information Technology. Technology has continued to advance at break-neck speed which has, and will continue to, provide new challenges when it comes to access to information. It also provides new opportunities to enable governments to operate in a more open and transparent manner and enables the dissemination of information to a wide audience in a fast and cheap way. See the programme for day 1. | | 2. | Open Government. It seems that some public officials still see an enquiry under freedom of information legislation as a nuisance which they can do without. What can be done to change this attitude and make access to information an easier and painless process for members of the public? See the programme for day 2. | | 3. | The Financial Crisis and FOI. The rich economies face recession, and growth in emerging economies is slowing down, there have been claims about the role of freedom of information in the crisis. Has it helped cause the crisis, could it have helped avoid it, or maybe it is the solution to the problems that we now face? See the programme for day 3. | Your participation and contribution to the success of the conference would be greatly valued, so please reserve the dates. Participants from all over the world are expected to gather in Oslo, and in addition to interesting lectures there will be an social programme that gives the participants the opportunity to establish valuable contacts in the FOI environment. It would give me great pleasure to welcome you at the conference in Oslo. Regards, Arne Fliflet Norwegian Parliamentary Ombudsman | | |
